It’s easy to be content when you have something to anticipate. Your days are filled with excitement and speculation, and it’s easy to gloss over whatever dissatisfaction your routine brings, because soon enough, that thing you’re looking forward to will be here. But what about afterward? You’ve gone and experienced that thing you were so eager for, and now it’s over and life has become ordinary once more.
It’s at this point that we need to look for the delightful among our daily routines, or challenge ourselves to face the things that were so easy to overlook in the face of anticipating one great thing. Probably it’s best to do both. Enjoy riding your bike to work, but polish your resume and start to look for more fulfilling jobs. Savor that dessert, and start saving money. Spend quality time with your friends, and work on a personally fulfilling project.
As they say, life is what happens when you’re busy making plans, so while it’s absolutely fair to look eagerly ahead, don’t fail to look at what’s directly around either.
